24 lessons at 24

A childhood photo sitting by a pool with water wings, dated April 20, 2007.

I turned 24 today.

So here are 24 lessons life has taught me so far.

  1. You don't need a complete family to live a complete life; my ammi played both roles and made me who I am today.
  2. The people you love will always be the best investment you ever make.
  3. Keep your circle small, close and full of people you can genuinely trust.
  4. Building a company is never as glamorous as it looks; behind every win are hundreds of failures nobody sees.
  5. Failure is not the opposite of success, it is often the price you pay for it.
  6. Your biggest opportunities will often arrive disguised as problems worth solving.
  7. You will rarely feel completely ready, so sometimes you just have to start.
  8. Stop fearing embarrassment because most people forget your failures long before you do.
  9. Your dreams may not happen according to your timeline, but that does not mean they will not happen.
  10. Never carry every problem alone; a conversation with the right person can change everything.
  11. Build a strong support system of friends, mentors and people who are willing to tell you the truth.
  12. Find your purpose, but remember that it is completely okay if it takes time.
  13. Don't search for shortcuts; search for paths that help you learn and grow along the way.
  14. Build things, ship them, let them fail, improve them and build again.
  15. Take your health seriously because every ambition you have depends on it.
  16. Help people whenever you genuinely can because kindness has a strange way of finding its way back.
  17. Social media is only a small window into someone's life, never the full story.
  18. Your digital footprint may show what you achieved, but people will remember how you made them feel.
  19. Take your closest friends with you on the journey because success is much better when it is shared.
  20. Consistency will take you further than talent if you are willing to keep showing up.
  21. Confidence is built every time you keep a promise you made to yourself.
  22. If something constantly costs you your peace, sometimes the price is simply too high.
  23. Great work is usually just good work repeated consistently for a very long time.
  24. Enjoy the life you are building because one day you will realise these were the days you once dreamed about.

24 years feels short, but when I look back at the people, memories, failures, opportunities and things I have been lucky enough to build, I am incredibly grateful.

I still have no idea where this journey leads, and maybe that is the best part.

Here's to chapter 24. ❤️
